We were honored to work alongside countless talented industry partners to bring the Ada Village redevelopment to life!
The aspiring, multi-phase vision transforms the historic business district into a vibrant, walkable community anchored by timeless design. This ambitious undertaking brings together modern placemaking strategies with the warmth and permanence of clay brick, fostering an environment where tradition and modernization coexist in elegant harmony.
Clay brick was chosen as the primary façade material not only for its durability and performance in Michigan’s extreme weather along with the region’s architectural heritage. The material’s natural variations, depth, and tactile quality offer a sense of craft and authenticity that resonates deeply and elevates the everyday experience of residents and visitors alike.
Aesthetically, the design team aimed to craft a contemporary village atmosphere—one that honors historic Main Streets while embracing modern urban planning. Clay brick was instrumental in achieving this balance. The new buildings were designed to reflect architectural styles from the 1870s to 1940s, exhibiting masonry artistry on all sides of the buildings through thoughtful detailing, patterned bond work, and a refined color palette.
Brick played a central role in accomplishing both the functional and symbolic goals of the project. Its modularity allowed for creative integration of varied forms—arches, columns, and textures—that offer visual interest and invite exploration. Beyond aesthetics, brick underscores the development’s commitment to environmental sustainability; its longevity, low maintenance, and thermal performance align with the Township’s goals for resource-conscious growth.
To feature, Suite 102 on River Street showcases a creative blend of Belden Brick Alamo and Yukon Blend with incredible artistic detail shown throughout. The darker brown tones of the Alamo with a scattering of the lighter Yukon blend creates an elevated characteristic to the building. You will find other examples of this throughout the community.
Brick was also used in walkways and featured in barrel ceilings with intricate patterns to complement the adjacent buildings.
In total, the brickwork across the Ada redevelopment does more than clad buildings—it tells a story. A story of renewal, rooted in history. A story where materials speak not only to quality but to identity. Through the discerning use of clay brick, the Village of Ada stands as a beacon of community-driven design, where each element contributes to a strong sense of place and pride.
